When Is the Best Time to Visit Charleston for Christmas?

Best time to go

Charleston starts decorating for Christmas shortly after Halloween and throughout the month of November. Some of the festivities open in mid-November (James Island Festival of the Lights opens November 14th). Events continue to happen through the end of December and sometimes into the beginning of January.

🎄The first through third weekend of December usually should be the height of Christmas displays and festivities this year.

Check out Charleston City Calendar for specific dates of each event.

🌡️What to expect with the weather

In late November through December, you can often expect mild temperatures with highs in the mid 60’s through 70’s and overnight lows in the 50’s. It is not unexpected to have weather fluctuations this time of year, sometimes warmer and sometimes cooler then usual, so make sure you check the forecast if you are heading into town.

⭐Tips for avoiding crowds

If you have a flexible schedule, weeknights are often less busy then weekends for almost everything Christmas related.

If there is a certain restaurant or activity you want to do, whenever possible, make reservations ahead of time to make sure you are able to get in!
